Why does a puppy exceed 1000 €?

A litter of puppies represents very very important costs : we will discover together the expenses necessary for a serious breeder   obviously because to succeed in selling an Australian Shepherd 500 or 700 euros that   hides a vice.

First of all the sale of puppies is subject to 20% VAT therefore on a puppy at 1200 € it is therefore 1000 € HT. (Price incl.VAT / (1 + VAT rate) = Price excl.Tax

Expenditure for female breeding

  • Hip and elbow dysplasia : € 361

  • Radio reading: 50 €

  • Genetic tests (MDR1, HSF4, AOC): 240 €

  • Other tests / MOHC: 200 €

  • identification   genetics: 45 €

  • Covering: between 1000 and 2500 €  

  • LOF confirmation : 25 €

  • Canine / hotel Exhibition / gasoline: 300 € by expo

  • Registration of the affix (single expense): 168 €

= € 921

These are on average the costs necessary for a bitch intended for breeding

obviously without taking into account the purchase price of the dog, the exhibitions ...  

Expenses for a litter (variable depending on suppliers and veterinarians)

  • heat monitoring: 37.50 + € 7.50

  • progesterone analysis: 23 € / per blood test

  • Puppies equipment : 330 €

  • puppy dog ​​food: 500 €

  • projection certificate: 13 €

  • Birth certificate: 25 € / puppy

  • puppy ads: 70 €

  • dewormers / milk: 150 €

  • projection: 1000 €

  • Vaccines / Fleas: € 75 / puppy

  • annual kibbles: around 600 € per dog

  • Structure charges / dog: around € 1,500

  • Radio and ultrasound : around 90 €

  • Fuel / maintenance: € 100 / litter

These values are calculated in the best of cases without unforeseen events (caesarean sections, care, surgeries ...) and for 7 puppies sold € 1,000 excluding tax per unit. So we can say without abuse that a puppy sold 1200 € TTC is a very reasonable price for an Australian Shepherd.

Breeder is a profession in its own right that must be practiced with passion and without having the idea of making a profit above all.
